The Department of Agricultural Economics was launched in the 2012/13 Academic Year (2005 E.C.). It is one of the renowned departments in the College of Agricultural Science (former Faculty of Agriculture), Woldia University. The department currently has 4 PhD candidates, 18 masters staff (1 Agri-business and value chain management, 2 Agricultural and applied economics, 15 Agricultural economics). Currently, the department offers B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Economics and working to open B.Sc. degree in Agri-business and value chain management and masters in Agricultural Economics. Beyond teaching, the department undertaking different problem-solving research and community service projects. The Agricultural Economics program at Woldia University is dedicated to advancing the understanding of the economic principles and policies that influence the agriculture and food sectors. Our program blends economics, business, and agriculture to address the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing global environment.

The department is dedicated to preparing professionals who can analyze, plan, and implement strategies for sustainable agricultural development, efficient resource use, and improved livelihoods.
